I just spotted a female Pine Warbler yesterday (the 2nd of February) sitting on the windowsill eating a seed. From what I understand, they overwinter a bit south of here (very southern Virginia and into the Carolina’s etc) but right when early February rolls around they return to just north of their wintering range – which is basically right where I am. Cool! I wonder if she had just arrived.

Although these were named Tree Sparrows by European settlers, they actually spend their time on the ground. Wha-wahhh.

Eastern Whippoorwill

I can't in good conscience have people camp here in the summer knowing that the Whippoorwill will be whooping ALL NIGHT LONG. Seriously. It's a bit much.
