Little did I know when I started documenting all of the flora and fauna here at Middle Way, that I would need to learn a lot about leaves and stems and pistils, and shapes, and hairy-ness, and really start to see plants in all seasons in a way I hadn’t before. Don’t even get me started on fungi!
That being said, many of the photos on this site do not capture all of the phases of the plants (so, I still have work to do). This is a continual work-in-progress. In addition, I am not a botanist, mycologist, ornithologist, entomologist, zoologist, or any other ‘ist’ of that nature. I just love nature, learning new things, and has an oversized curiosity about the world.

DISCLAIMER: This is not an exhaustive list of all the myriad things that are here at Middle Way Nature Reserve.
And finally, Middle Way Nature Reserve is not a legally established Nature Reserve (yet!). Our hope is to eventually set aside this precious land for that purpose, to protect what lives here, and to nurture curiosity and the love of the natural world in others. For now, Middle Way Nature Reserve is not open to the public. What we can tell you is that we are located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in central Virginia, on land taken from the native Monacan tribe. We are only a guest here. We honor those that were here before us, and are filled with gratitude to be able to love and protect all beings, sentient and insentient, that have their home on this land.
We don’t sell or share your information with anyone.
