There are many kinds of Liatris (blazingstar) and this one specifically is suited to my wild meadow, which has particularly sandy/loamy and dry soil. It’s a great beneficial for pollinator insects, and it’s nice to look at as well!
Alternate Names: Scaly Gayfeather, Scaly Liatris Size: 10"-24" tall Family: Asteraceae (Aster Family) Habitat: Dry, rocky or sandy soils, full sun. Identification: This plant can have one or several stems, which are erect and unbranched. Compared to other liatris species, this one has less leaves, and it blooms earlier. Along the spike/stem are the tuft-like violet flower heads which are openly spaced.
