There are a lot of oak trees here, both red and white, however I haven’t enough information to identify all of them (yet). I do know there are Northern Red Oaks.

One thing I’ve learned since I started bucking and splitting firewood, is not only do they have different textures (white oaks are stringy, red oaks easier to split) they all smell different.

Below is a handy photo from the Virginia Department of Forestry that shows the different in oak acorns. This will be handy as I start keeping a better eye out.
