Butterfly Weed
Asclepias tuberosa

Butterfly Weed is a great plant to attract pollinators, hence it’s name. In addition, its thick, long taproot helps it withstand periods of drought.

If you look closely you’ll probably spot some crab spiders in the flowers. These spider ambush pollinators, even large bumblebees!

Identifiers: Tall, erect plant with alternate leaves. Orange to reddish flowers in May-August.
